Sean Combs Release Date: Diddy to Return Home Earlier Than Expected | Rolling Stone

by Emma Walker – News Editor

Sean Combs’ anticipated release from federal prison has been moved to April 25, 2028, more than five weeks earlier than previously scheduled, according to the Federal Bureau of Prisons website. The shift in the release date for the music mogul, also known as Diddy, comes as he continues to appeal his 2024 conviction on two counts related to prostitution. Combs, 56, is currently serving a 50-month sentence at Fort Dix, a low-security facility in Fresh Jersey. His initial release date was set for May 8, 2028, but was later pushed back to June 4, 2028, in November 2025, according to the BOP’s records. Reports from CBS and TMZ at the time suggested possible prison rule violations, allegations Combs’ team denied, with a representative declining further comment. The Bad Boy Records founder was arrested in September 2024 and charged with sex trafficking, racketeering conspiracy, and transporting individuals for prostitution. The charges stemmed from allegations of so-called “freak-offs” involving Combs, his then-girlfriend Casandra “Cassie” Ventura, and male escorts. Following a seven-week trial last summer, Combs was acquitted of the most serious charges, but convicted on the two prostitution-related counts. Combs is currently challenging both his sentencing and the law under which he was convicted, with a hearing scheduled for April. He has been actively participating in prison programs, including working in the chapel library and enrolling in the Residential Drug Abuse Program (RDAP). Completion of RDAP can potentially reduce an inmate’s sentence by up to one year. A spokesperson previously told Rolling Stone that Combs “is taking his time there seriously and working every day toward healing and coming home.” The fluctuating release dates and ongoing legal challenges underscore the complexities of Combs’ case. Even as the earlier release date offers a potential path toward a quicker return to civilian life, the outcome of his appeal remains uncertain. Page Six first reported the updated release date. E! News and Okayplayer also reported on the change.
