‘Seagull Boy’ to Judge Weston-super-Mare seagull Call Competition
WESTON-SUPER-MARE, UK – August 29, 2025 – The viral sensation known as ‘Seagull Boy’ will preside over a unique competition in Weston-super-Mare, judging entrants’ best seagull calls. The contest, launched by local business owner Mark Peters, seeks to crown the most convincing avian impression-maker in two age categories.
Peters initiated the competition to generate excitement and participation in a local promotional event. He hopes the unusual contest will draw attention to Weston-super-Mare and engage residents of all ages. “We’ve got two categories, so there’s no excuses for not taking part really,” Peters stated. “[In] the over 12s we’re also including parents, grandparents – anybody who can make a seagull call, we want to hear from them.”
The competition, announced on Thursday, features separate divisions for children under 12 and those aged 12 and over, including adults. Weston-super-Mare AFC mascot Sammy the Seagull, sporting a striped team shirt and posing with a “traditional fish and chips” sign, has been enlisted to promote the event throughout the town. Details regarding entry and judging criteria have not yet been released, but Peters anticipates a strong turnout.
