SDSU Aztecs Dominate Nevada in Road Victory

San Diego State Overwhelms Nevada 44-10, Extends ‌Turnover Streak

RENO, Nev. – San Diego State delivered a‌ dominant performance on the road Saturday, defeating⁣ Nevada ⁢44-10 at Mackay Stadium and extending their national lead in turnovers to‍ 16 ⁣on the season. The Aztecs ​(4-2, 2-1 Mountain West) showcased a balanced attack and stifling defense, scoring more points in just​ over a quarter than they had in their previous two‌ road games combined.

SDSU jumped to a speedy lead, capitalizing on Nevada’s struggles ​with ball security. The Aztecs expanded their advantage to 21-0 early in the second quarter when quarterback Jayden Denegal connected with running back Christian Washington for a 2-yard touchdown pass.A 31-yard touchdown pass from Denegal to wide receiver⁢ Jacob Bostick followed six minutes later, drawing boos from the announced crowd of 19,473.

SDSU continued to pour it on before ⁤halftime, with running back Lucky Sutton scoring on a 3-yard carry.Sutton finished the game with 76 rushing yards on 16 carries. The aztecs entered the locker room​ at halftime with​ a commanding 35-0 lead.

Denegal completed 14 of 17 passes for 205 ⁢yards and two touchdowns, continuing a strong run of form after completing 13 of 16 passes against ⁤Colorado State the previous​ week. He also contributed with his legs, ⁣gaining 21 and 29 yards on ‍runs in the first half.

The Aztecs’ special teams also shone, with kicker Gabe Plascencia connecting on field goals ​of 21, 45, and 49 yards in the third quarter. Plascencia’s 49-yarder extended his school record to 22 consecutive successful‌ field goals, and his 21st straight set a new Mountain West record.

Nevada avoided‌ a shutout when kicker ⁤joe McFadden made a 34-yard field goal with⁢ 12:50 ⁤remaining. The Wolf Pack​ added a 16-yard touchdown ⁢with 2:32 left to complete the scoring.

SDSU’s⁤ victory marked their first consecutive 40-point games as 2017 and improved their record to 60-2 over ⁢the past 62 games⁢ when rushing for at least⁤ 200 yards – the Aztecs finished with 206 yards on the ground. ⁣The Aztecs also had both a punt and interception returned for⁣ touchdowns in the same game for the⁣ first time as 2013 against Boise State.

The game wasn’t without⁤ its penalties; SDSU linebacker Brady Anderson ‌was ejected for targeting with 4:12 remaining and will miss ⁤the‌ first half of the Aztecs’ next game. Linebacker ​Tano Letuli also missed the game due ⁢to an undisclosed⁢ injury, with senior⁢ transfer Mister Williams starting in his place.

SDSU will ⁣enjoy a bye week ⁤before resuming their season on October 25 at ‍Fresno ‌State. The Bulldogs ‍(5-2,2-1 MW) lost to Colorado ⁣State 49-21 on Friday night,despite outgaining ⁢the Rams in total offense.
