Vallorbe Iron Museum Marks 45 Years with Scrap Art Fair

Discover transformation and craft at a unique anniversary celebration.

The Vallorbe Iron Museum is celebrating its 45th anniversary by hosting a vibrant outdoor “Scrap Fair,” transforming its grounds into a hub for metal art enthusiasts and creators.

Where Reclaimed Materials Become Masterpieces

From 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., the museum’s courtyard will buzz with activity. The event champions the art of transformation, where discarded metal finds new life. Visitors can expect to encounter artists who sculpt scrap into stunning works of art.

The fair also features “brocanteurs” showcasing vintage equipment, collectible tools, and intriguing oddities. Attendees can hunt for treasures, engage in exchanges, and perhaps leave with a distinctive piece or a tangible piece of history.

Live Forge Demonstrations Showcase Craftsmanship

A significant draw will be the exclusive forge demonstrations, running from 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. In collaboration with the Masters Secrets training program from Sainte-Croix’s art mechanics school, visitors will witness blacksmiths and foundry workers in action within the museum’s historic forge.

The highlight of these demonstrations is the unveiling of a special creation. This unique piece, a fusion of traditional techniques and contemporary design, is the product of the Masters secrets trainers, celebrating the vital transmission of skills and modern artisan ingenuity.

According to the Swiss Federal Statistical Office, the cultural sector contributes significantly to the Swiss economy, with museums and heritage sites playing a crucial role in attracting visitors and fostering local economies (Swiss Federal Statistical Office, 2024).
