Scott Partin Ordained Transitional Deacon in Chicago
Bishop John S. Siemianowski of the Archdiocese of Chicago ordained Scott Partin to the transitional diaconate at Saint Michael’s Catholic Church in the Old Town neighborhood of Chicago, bringing together community brothers from Denver, Baltimore, and Canada on the feast of Saint Michael the Archangel, according to Andrew Tran-Chung, C.Ss.R.
Clergy Travel from Across Regions for the Liturgy
The liturgy drew clergy from several distant regions. Father John Schmidt traveled from Minneapolis, where Scott spent part of his pastoral year working at Saint Alphonsus Parish. Father Eumir Bautista journeyed from Winnipeg, another location of Scott’s summer ministry.
Father Andy Matijevic of Holy Name Cathedral served as master of ceremonies. Concelebrating the mass were Fathers Lamar Partin, Thien Hoang, Aaron Meszaros, Kevin Zubel, Thomas Pham, and Larry Sanders, joined by Cody Hill, Andrew Tran-Chung, Son Lai, and Dang Nguyen.
Patronal Festival Feeds Crowds With Traditional Filipino Dishes
Following the mass, parish pastor Father Larry Sanders invited attendees to the parish’s patronal festival held directly in front of the church.
The Filipino food celebration featured five roasted pigs—known as lechón—alongside lumpia, halo-halo, and traditional dishes. Cool temperatures and a bright sun drew large crowds into the plaza for conversation as the line for the lechón stretched across the square.

International Formation Prepares New Deacon for Service
As Scott steps into his new ministry as a transitional deacon, he brings forward a broad background of formation.
His assignments have taken him to Penn Medical in Philadelphia, Welcome Home in Winnipeg, the Temple of Our Lady of Fatima in Obregón, Mexico, and Saint Alphonsus in Minneapolis, providing a foundation for his service to the Church, according to Andrew Tran-Chung, C.Ss.R.
