Agency Roads and Traffic (AWV) is currently installing the new signage. This change aims to improve road safety, especially for vulnerable road users like pedestrians and cyclists. The speed reduction aligns with the recent addition of new, accessible bus stops along the N8 in Centrum Schepdaal, which require a lower speed limit for safe operation.
This decision follows discussions at the Provincial Commission for Road Safety (PCV) in March 2022,where the need for a speed reduction was identified. The Dilbeek city council also voiced support for the change in May 2023, prompted by concerns about footpath conditions and unsecured crossings. A structural consultation with AWV on June 10, 2024, confirmed the 50 km/h speed limit for the built-up area. The Dilbeek college approved the supplementary traffic regulations in September 2024.
