Schepdaal Speed Limit: N8 Reduced to 50 km/h for Road Safety

by Emma Walker – News Editor

, ⁢the ‌Ninoofsesteenweg (N8) in ‍Schepdaal, Belgium, is undergoing ‍a safety upgrade. The speed limit on this ‍road, within⁣ the built-up ‌area of Schepdaal, has been reduced from 70 km/h too 50 km/h. Agency Roads and Traffic (AWV) is currently installing the new signage. This change aims⁢ to improve road⁢ safety, especially for vulnerable road users like pedestrians and cyclists. The⁣ speed reduction aligns with the recent addition of ⁢new, accessible bus stops along the N8 in Centrum Schepdaal,⁤ which require a lower‌ speed limit for safe operation.

This decision follows discussions at the Provincial Commission for Road Safety (PCV) in March 2022,where the need for ‌a speed reduction was identified. The Dilbeek city ⁤council also⁢ voiced support for the change in May 2023, prompted by concerns about‌ footpath conditions and unsecured crossings. A structural consultation with AWV on June 10, 2024, ⁤confirmed‍ the 50 km/h speed limit for the built-up area. The Dilbeek college approved the supplementary traffic regulations in September 2024.
