Saudi Arabia: New 90-Day Visit Visa for Umrah & Tourism

March 25, 2026 Emma Walker – News Editor News

Saudi Arabia has introduced a new tourism visa program allowing visitors to stay for up to 90 days per visit, with visas valid for up to one year, effectively ending decades-vintage sponsorship requirements. The move, announced by Saudi authorities, aims to facilitate religious pilgrimages like the Umrah and encourage broader tourism throughout the Kingdom.

The new visa scheme represents a significant departure from previous restrictions. For years, foreign visitors to Saudi Arabia were largely dependent on a complex sponsorship system, known as *kafala*, which tied their legal status to their employer or host. The elimination of this system streamlines the process for those wishing to enter the country, particularly for religious observances. The visa allows for multiple entries within the year, offering flexibility for travelers.

According to the announcement, the new visa program is designed to simplify procedures through an online platform hosted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The digital application process is intended to expedite visa issuance and reduce administrative hurdles. This modernization aligns with broader efforts to attract international visitors and diversify the Saudi economy.

The initiative underscores Saudi Arabia’s commitment to enhancing the visitor experience and setting new standards in hospitality for pilgrims and tourists, while ensuring the process is managed professionally to serve those visiting the holy sites. The program is expected to significantly increase the number of visitors undertaking the Umrah pilgrimage, as well as those seeking to explore the Kingdom’s historical sites and modern entertainment destinations.

The changes come as Saudi Arabia continues to invest heavily in tourism infrastructure and diversify its economy away from oil. The Kingdom has launched numerous large-scale tourism projects in recent years, including new resorts, cultural attractions, and entertainment venues. The new visa policy is intended to complement these investments by making it easier for people to visit and experience what Saudi Arabia has to offer.
