Películas Pendelton to Co-Produce Adult Animated Series ‘Saturday Sabadete’
Madrid – MiraChechu Productions and Películas Pendelton have joined forces to develop “Saturday sabadete,” an adult animated series envisioned as Spain’s answer to american comedies like “South Park” and “Family Guy.” The project will be pitched at the Co-Production and Financing Forum during Iberseries & Platino industria 2025, beginning october 1.
The collaboration marks a significant expansion for mirachechu, founded in 2005 as a one-person creative outlet for animator and writer Abraham Rey. Rey’s previous work includes the internationally recognized short film “Pobre Marciano,” which screened at the Ottawa Festival.Películas Pendelton, led by Luis Manso alongside director Javier Fesser, brings substantial industry experience and a track record of Spanish box office hits, including “The Miracle of P. Tinto,” “Mortadelo and Filemón: Mission Implausible,” and the €19.1 million ($22.3 million) grossing “Champions” (released by Universal).
Rey expressed a desire to fill a gap in the adult animation landscape, stating, “For years we’ve consumed shows like ‘South Park’ or ‘Family Guy’ from the U.S., but never one that reflects our own culture. There’s a huge audience waiting for a Spanish voice in this space.”
The partnership allows Rey to scale up production from independent shorts to an industrial level, positioning “Saturday Sabadete” as a key effort to introduce locally-rooted adult animation to a global audience.
