Sardinia Braces for Sunny Weekend as Azores High-Pressure System Arrives

The Italian island of Sardinia is set to experience a significant shift in weather conditions this weekend, with the arrival of the Azores high-pressure system promising a return to stable and sunny weather after a period of unsettled conditions. The change marks the complete of a prolonged period of rainfall and disruption across Italy, according to meteorological reports.

Today, Saturday, February 21st, the high-pressure system is moving across the island, bringing clear skies and a noticeable improvement in temperatures. The forecast indicates predominantly sunny conditions across the western, eastern, and southern coasts, as well as inland northern areas and the mountainous regions. Some cloud cover is possible in the southern interior during the evening hours, but overall conditions are expected to remain serene.

Temperatures are expected to reach a maximum of between 14 and 18 degrees Celsius, with nighttime temperatures remaining relatively stable. Winds will be light, blowing from the northwest, with the presence of the Maestrale wind. The freezing level will be high, around 2600 meters.

Despite the improved weather on land, mariners are being advised to exercise caution. The Sea of Sardinia is currently experiencing very agitated to agitated conditions, while the Channel of Sardinia is agitated to very rough, and the Tyrrhenian Sea is very rough to rough. These conditions pose a risk, particularly for activities in open waters.

The favorable weather pattern is expected to continue on Sunday, February 22nd, with the high-pressure system maintaining its influence. Western sectors will be partially sunny, while the remainder of the island will enjoy more consistently clear skies. Maximum temperatures are forecast to rise slightly, reaching between 15 and 18 degrees Celsius, with minimal changes in nighttime lows.

Meteorological sources indicate that the improvement is part of a broader shift in weather patterns across Europe, with the subtropical high-pressure system expanding northward and diverting Atlantic disturbances. While another perturbation is possible towards the end of February, between the 27th and 28th, this remains a long-term forecast and is subject to change. The recent storm, Pedro, has largely dissipated over the Adriatic Sea, the South, and Sicily, bringing an end to a remarkably wet period for Italy that saw over 20 disruptive weather systems pass through the country since mid-January.

The return of stable, sunny weather is expected to provide a boost to tourism and outdoor activities on the island, offering a welcome respite after weeks of inclement weather. However, authorities continue to advise caution for those venturing out on the sea due to the ongoing rough conditions.
