Sara Richmond Plans to Pursue Law and Music at Ohio University

August 22, 2026 Julia Evans – Entertainment Editor Entertainment

Belpre High School senior Sara Richmond balances a rigorous marching band schedule with aspirations for higher education, aiming to study disability law at Ohio University while minoring in music to become a front ensemble director.

Navigating Academic Ambitions and Musical Dedication

As a straight A student, Richmond is the daughter of Gabriel and Carrie Richmond. Her high school extracurricular involvement spans the handbell choir, marching band, vocal choir, and the National Honor Society. Beyond campus boundaries, she participates in the Upward Bound Program at Washington State College of Ohio and volunteers with the Safetytown program. Reflecting on her college preparation, Richmond noted that the Upward Bound initiative facilitated campus visits to institutions including Muskingum University, Ohio University, WVUP, WVU, and Little Hocking College, aiding her decision-making process for future studies.

When considering her undergraduate path, Richmond stated an intention to enroll in Ohio University’s prelaw program with a specific focus on disability law. Simultaneously, she plans to pursue a music minor directed toward leading a front ensemble, the percussion section positioned on the sideline during marching band performances. Within the Belpre High School band, she performs on the marimba and has contributed to competitive programs such as “The Alchemist’s Machine,” a thematic production detailing an alchemist’s efforts to operate a complex apparatus. Balancing these commitments requires stringent time management, particularly during October when practice schedules run daily, alongside Friday night football games and Saturday competitions.

Community Engagement and Extracurricular Leadership

In addition to her musical pursuits, Richmond completed her first year as a volunteer for the Safetytown program, guiding children through foundational safety rules involving pedestrians, buses, construction sites, and pools. Her community involvement also encompasses local beautification projects through her Upward Bound affiliation.
