São Paulo IAPP: Privacy, AI & Cybersecurity Networking
A waitlist opened this month for an International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP) event in São Paulo focused on the European Union’s Artificial Intelligence Act, according to a post on LinkedIn by Dirceu Santa Rosa, CCEP-I, CIPM.
The event, scheduled for May 12th, will address the final draft of the EU AI Act, featuring speakers from both the European Union and Brazil. Santa Rosa’s post indicated that information about the event is also available on the IAPP website, but he provided direct instructions for joining the waitlist via email for those who prefer not to navigate the site.
The São Paulo IAPP KnowledgeNet Chapter connects local privacy, AI governance and cybersecurity law professionals, offering educational meetings and networking opportunities. According to the IAPP website, the chapter is led by Fernando Bousso, CDPO/BR, FIP, Partner, Head at Baptista Luz Advogados, and Lizandra Muchelli Pereira da Silva de Almeida, CIPP/E, CIPM, CDPO/BR, and Luiz Fernando Plastino Andrade, CIPP/E, CIPM, Data Protection Officer at Barcellos Tucunduva Advogados.
The IAPP offers a range of resources related to AI governance, including a vendor report, a global law and policy tracker, and certification programs. The organization also facilitates connections between professionals through local chapters and peer groups. A recent in-person event, held on March 7, 2024, also focused on the EU AI Act.
The IAPP encourages members to support local chapters by donating meeting space or speaking at events. The São Paulo chapter currently has no upcoming meetings scheduled, but the IAPP indicated that more events focused on privacy and AI governance are planned for later in the year.
