Santa Fe Eclipse 2024: Warm Weather & Spring Break Fun

Santa Fe Independent School District (SFISD) students returned to classes on August 11, 2025, following an extended spring break that concluded on March 13, 2026, according to the district’s recently approved academic calendar.

The spring break period, spanning from March 9th to March 13th, coincided with a period of unseasonably warm weather in the region, prompting increased activity at local parks and recreational areas. The timing of the break also aligned with those of neighboring school districts in Albuquerque, Rio Rancho, and Los Alamos, as noted by Santa Fe Public Schools (SFPS).

The SFISD calendar, approved in December 2024 after gathering feedback from staff and parents through a November survey, outlines key dates for the 2025-2026 academic year. Significant dates include Labor Day on September 1st as a student and staff holiday, and a series of professional learning days for teachers on September 29th, October 10th, February 13th, and February 16th. These professional learning days are designated as “Exchange Days.”

Students in pre-kindergarten, kindergarten, sixth grade, and ninth grade began the school year on August 11th, with all other students following on August 12th. Early release days are scheduled for December 19th, and the Christmas break for students and staff runs from December 22nd to January 2nd. The spring semester includes a work day and professional development period for staff on January 5th and 6th, and a holiday for Martin Luther King Jr. Day on January 19th.

Additional student holidays are scheduled for Columbus Day on October 13th, and Good Friday on April 3rd. The calendar also includes an early release for all campuses on May 22nd, though details regarding the finish of the school year were not immediately available. School day start and stop times vary by grade level: elementary schools operate from 8:40 AM to 4:00 PM, junior high from 7:50 AM to 3:12 PM, and high schools from 7:20 AM to 2:52 PM.
