SAN DIEGO - Disappointment hung in the air Saturday night as San Diego FC fell to Vancouver 3-1 in the Western Conference Final at Snapdragon Stadium, ending their inaugural season playoff run.
Despite the loss, a fervent fanbase expressed pride in the team’s performance and optimism for the future. San Diego FC exceeded expectations in its first year,reaching the conference final and igniting a passion for soccer in the city.
The atmosphere surrounding Snapdragon Stadium was electric before the match, with fans arriving hours early to tailgate and express their confidence. “Let’s go San Diego,” echoed through the parking lot as supporters prepared for a potential MLS Cup Final berth.
“we’re watching who we’re going to play next. Very cool. So you guys are expecting a win. Absolutely,” said Gerald Bartolome,who attended the game with his family.
Minesh Kakhani highlighted the significance of the moment. “It’s a first, it’s the first inaugural season, it’s the first conference final for the team, it’s the first for everything so enthusiasm is through the roof,” he said.
Bartolome admitted to some pre-game nerves, adding, “A little nervous, but yeah, extremely excited to be in this position.”
Daniel Castillo emphasized the team’s impact on the city. “This city is irking for a championship and we’re literally two games away from winning it all. When you see a young team as ours just come in and just show as much passion and show the fire, you know, it really represents the city,” he stated.
While the 3-1 defeat was a setback, fans remained hopeful. “the city has brought us something to be proud of and I don’t want to…I’m really proud of this team,” said Niel Weiss.
Michelle Spurgeon expressed confidence in a future rematch: “Another great San Diego team, just a…we’ll get them next time.”

The enthusiasm for the team’s future was palpable.”I can’t wait. I’ve got my season ticket deposit in. I’m so stoked,” Weiss added.
