Dallas‘s Samuell Grand Pool Remains City’s most Popular Aquatic Destination Following Renovation
The Cove at Samuell Grand, formerly known as Samuell Grand Pool, continues to draw the largest crowds of any aquatic facility operated by the City of Dallas, according to recently released attendance figures. Through the first week of August in fiscal year 2024-2025, the facility recorded 18,734 visitors – a daily average of 368 – surpassing all other Dallas city pools.
Originally opened in 1936 as part of the city’s park system, Samuell Grand underwent a notable renovation completed in 2018. The project encompassed both the historic bathhouse and the construction of new buildings, led by Treanor Inc. (formerly McCoy Collaborative Preservation Architecture) in collaboration with Kimley Horn Landscape Architects, engineers and Planners. The revitalized facility, rebranded as The Cove at Samuell Grand, earned a Preservation achievement Award from Preservation Dallas in 2020, recognizing its successful blend of historic preservation and modern amenities.
The renovation preserved the original bathhouse while adding new features to enhance the visitor experience. The project’s success is reflected in its consistently high attendance, solidifying Samuell Grand’s position as a premier destination for dallas residents seeking relief from the Texas heat. The City of Dallas reopened the facility on August 17, 2018.
