Samsung Galaxy Z Fold9 and Fold9 Ultra Camera Details Reported
A Widening Gap in Foldable Optics
Samsung is preparing to sharpen the distinction between its flagship foldable smartphones, with early technical specifications for the Galaxy Z Fold9 and Galaxy Z Fold9 Ultra now surfacing. These details, shared by tech leaker Walle Galaxy and reported by outlets including TIMES Indonesia, provide the first specific claims about how the company intends to split its upcoming lineup. The reports emerged following a Tuesday, November 3, 2026, update regarding the internal development of these devices.
The standard Galaxy Z Fold9 appears set to maintain a leaner hardware profile. It is expected to retain the dual-camera configuration found on the Galaxy Z Fold8, utilizing a 50-megapixel primary sensor paired with a 50-megapixel ultra-wide lens. Sources indicate the company does not plan to include a dedicated telephoto lens on the standard model, keeping the hardware focused on a simpler, dual-sensor system.

The Ultra’s High-Resolution Push
The Galaxy Z Fold9 Ultra is positioned to offer a much stronger three-camera array. Reports from ANTARA News suggest this configuration will feature a 200-megapixel primary camera, a 50-megapixel ultra-wide lens, and a telephoto lens capable of 3x optical zoom. The market is currently witnessing a shift in competitive focus between leading technology firms, with Samsung aiming to keep the Ultra variant as the superior photography offering.
While the primary sensor retains the 200-megapixel count of the current Fold8 Ultra, the leaker indicated that Samsung intends to implement a new sensor unit to improve overall image quality. The specific resolution for the Ultra’s telephoto lens remains unconfirmed, though the previous generation utilized a 10-megapixel sensor. It is currently unclear whether the telephoto resolution will remain static or see a slight increase.
Resurrecting Under-Display Technology
Discussions regarding the device’s design suggest a potential pivot in internal screen aesthetics. JPNN reported that the Galaxy Z Fold9 may incorporate an under-display camera (UDC) for its internal screen.
Samsung previously utilized UDC technology in models from the Galaxy Z Fold3 through the Z Fold6, but reverted to a traditional punch-hole design for the Z Fold7 and Z Fold8 series. The potential return of the under-display sensor is viewed by some as an effort to compete with the rumored “iPhone Duo” foldable device, which is also expected to feature hidden camera technology, reportedly including a 4-megapixel under-display selfie camera.
Uncertainties Ahead of Launch
These specifications remain unconfirmed, as Samsung has not made an official announcement regarding the Galaxy Z Fold9 series. Because the anticipated launch remains months away, the current hardware configurations are subject to change. As the company has not confirmed any details, observers note that these early projections must be treated with caution.
