Samsung Galaxy S26: Seamless File Sharing with iPhones via Quick Share
Samsung has officially enabled cross-platform file sharing between its Galaxy S26 series devices and Apple’s iPhones, iPads, and Macs, a feature mirroring Apple’s AirDrop functionality. The rollout begins in Korea on March 23, with expansion to the United States later this week, and further availability across Europe, Hong Kong, Japan, Latin America, North America, Southeast Asia, and Taiwan planned for the coming weeks.
The new capability, built into Samsung’s Quick Share service, addresses a long-standing frustration for smartphone users: the difficulty of seamlessly transferring files between different operating systems. Previously, sharing high-resolution photos or large videos required workarounds like cloud storage services, email, or messaging apps that often compress file sizes.
Samsung’s implementation allows Galaxy S26 users to share files with nearby Apple devices directly through the Quick Share menu. According to Samsung, Apple devices will recognize the Galaxy S26 as they would another Apple device. Although, Samsung notes that users must enable a setting within Quick Share to “Share with Apple devices” and advises iPhone users to have “Everyone” mode enabled for the feature to function correctly. This requirement is similar to Google’s implementation of AirDrop support on Pixel devices, which debuted with the Pixel 10 in late 2025 and expanded to the Pixel 9 series.
The initial rollout is limited to the Galaxy S26, Galaxy S26+, and Galaxy S26 Ultra. Samsung has indicated that support will be extended to additional Galaxy devices via a software update later this year, though a specific timeline has not been provided.
The move comes as Google too expands AirDrop compatibility within its Quick Share service, with Oppo announcing plans to add support to its devices before the end of March. This broader industry shift towards interoperability marks a significant change in the traditionally walled-garden approach to mobile operating systems.
