bollywood superstar Salman Khan recently underwent an eight-hour surgery to address debilitating pain caused by trigeminal neuralgia, a chronic pain condition affecting the trigeminal nerve. The actor revealed the extent of his suffering, describing the pain as excruciating and unimaginable.
Khan, 58, publicly disclosed his health battle on September 24, 2023, explaining he had been quietly enduring the condition for years. Trigeminal neuralgia causes intense, stabbing or electric shock-like pain in the face, and can significantly impact quality of life. Khan stated, “You would not want your biggest enemy to have that pain.” The surgery, performed in Mumbai, aimed to alleviate the nerve compression causing the condition.
The actor explained that the pain became unbearable, prompting him to seek medical intervention. He initially attempted to manage the symptoms with medication, but the relief was temporary. Khan’s decision to undergo the complex procedure underscores the severity of trigeminal neuralgia and the potential for surgical solutions when conservative treatments fail. He is now recovering and expects a full return to his film commitments. The condition affects an estimated 1 in 15,000 people, and can be caused by a number of factors, including blood vessel compression of the trigeminal nerve.
