Salem Police Officer Hit-and-Run Suspect Arraigned in Court

Salem, Massachusetts – The driver accused of hitting a Salem police officer in a hit-and-run incident on January 21, 2026, was arraigned in salem District Court on Wednesday, January 28, 2026.The suspect, identified as 32-year-old Kevin Michael O’Connell of Peabody, Massachusetts, pleaded not guilty to charges including assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol, and leaving the scene of an accident causing personal injury.

According to the Essex County District Attorney’s office, the incident occurred at approximately 10:45 PM on January 21st near the intersection of Essex Street and Washington Square. Officer Miller sustained serious, but non-life-threatening injuries, including a broken leg and multiple contusions.
