Table of Contents
Besozzo (Varese), October 16, 2025 - A unique rehabilitation program is harnessing the power of sailing to improve the lives of individuals with disabilities. Users of the CDD – Day Center for Disabled People of Besozzo – are experiencing the benefits of time on Lake Maggiore, with a focus on both socialization and proprioception, the body’s ability to perceive its position and movement in space.
Wind Sail Initiative
The project is spearheaded by the Renato Piatti Onlus Foundation, in collaboration with the asd wind sail and Music association. This experimental initiative blends sport, nature, and rehabilitation to foster the psychophysical well-being of adults with disabilities, carefully selected for their ability to participate safely and actively in the boating experience.
During excursions on the lake, participants are accompanied by specialized operators holding lifeguard certification, aboard two dedicated boats. The natural environment – the wind, sun, and water – is intentionally integrated into the rehabilitation process, promoting relaxation and providing valuable sensory stimulation.

Initial results are promising. Participants have demonstrated enthusiasm and have not exhibited signs of physical discomfort during the sessions. The boating experience has demonstrably induced states of relaxation, reducing agitation and tension, with positive effects continuing even after the activity concludes.
