Saarpfalz Seniors’ Fair “Active in Age” – Homburg Forum, March 28th
The Homburg Forum will host the seniors’ fair “Active in Age” on March 28th, offering a range of resources and advice for older residents of the Saarpfalz district, their families, and those planning for the future. District Administrator Frank John will open the event, which runs from 10 a.m. To 5 p.m. In the parliamentary wing of the Forum.
The fair aims to provide information on leisure activities, volunteer opportunities, care and support services, and home modification advice. John emphasized the importance of proactive planning, stating that the fair is designed for seniors and their relatives to learn more about available resources. He also encouraged younger generations to consider preventative measures.
A key feature of this year’s fair is a “Fit and Vital for a Lifetime” program offered by the Saarland Gymnastics Association. Participants can undergo an everyday fitness test assessing strength, endurance, flexibility, and mobility, receiving personalized exercise recommendations to maintain an independent lifestyle.
Security will also be a focus, with trained senior security advisors providing guidance on protecting against fraud, theft, and home break-ins. Detective Inspector Florian Hitzelberger from the State Police Department will deliver a lecture on cybercrime immediately following the opening, addressing online dangers and preventative measures.
Recognizing the challenges faced by caregivers, a second lecture will be presented by Tanja Wehrmeier from “endlichICHsein,” focusing on stress management and resilience training for those supporting loved ones. The fair will also showcase assistive devices, allowing attendees to test and learn about technologies designed to improve daily living for seniors and individuals with disabilities.
Admission to the fair is free, and the venue is fully accessible. Parking is available around the Homburg Forum, and refreshments will be provided. Those with questions can contact the Saarpfalz District Senior Citizens’ Office at [email protected] or (06841) 104-7258.
Frank John assumed the role of Landrat (District Administrator) of the Saarpfalz-Kreis on June 2, 2025, succeeding Theophil Gallo. He won a run-off election on June 23, 2024, securing 60.64% of the vote against Klaus-Ludwig Fess of the CDU, according to election results. Prior to becoming Landrat, John served as the mayor of Kirkel from 2009 to 2024, winning re-election in 2016 with 76% of the vote. He previously worked as a bookkeeper in the Saarpfalz-Kreis administration under Clemens Lindemann and headed the controlling department.
From October 2024 to May 2025, John was involved in the development of the state’s land development plan within the Saarland Ministry of the Interior, focusing on regulations for municipal expansion of building areas.
