Rüya Gibi Series Finale: Why Was It Canceled?

The Turkish television series “Rüya Gibi” (Like a Dream) has been cancelled after 13 episodes, despite a recent schedule change intended to boost viewership, according to reports from Birsen Altuntaş.

The show, which premiered on Show TV, initially aired on Tuesdays before moving to Sundays. Despite the shift and cast additions, ratings failed to improve, leading TMC Film, the production company, to end the series. The decision followed a review of ratings data after the 13th episode was completed, as reported by Sacitaslan magazine.

“Rüya Gibi” featured a prominent cast including Seda Bakan, Uğur Güneş, Ahsen Eroğlu, Emre Bey, Şebnem Bozoklu, Celil Nalçakan, Devrim Yakut, and Menderes Samancılar. The series centered on the story of Aydan, a hairdresser, played by Seda Bakan.

The cancellation comes shortly after actor Celil Nalçakan, who played Aydan’s husband, departed the series on February 8th, reportedly due to a storyline change, according to Takvim newspaper.

Seda Bakan, a leading actress in the series, has been described as one of the actors who successfully balances a career with motherhood, having completed three projects simultaneously last season, according to Birsen Altuntaş. Bakan previously stated, “After I got married and had children, everyone told me ‘You won’t be able to work. It’s over.’ Why can’t I? Why is this perception forming? I think after establishing my own system, there is nothing that cannot be done. If a person wants something, they can do anything.”

The series’ final ratings performance, assessed on February 15th, confirmed the downward trend, prompting the final decision, according to Altuntaş.
