Russell Brand Trial Begins in London Over Sexual Charges, PBS Reports
British actor and comedian Russell Brand arrived at Southwark Crown Court on October 12, 2026, as jury selection began for his trial on sexual offense charges involving six women, PBS reported.
Arrival at Southwark Crown Court
Mr Brand arrived at the London courthouse at approximately 8:45 a.m. riding in a black Mercedes. Accompanied by his wife, Laura Gallacher, and security personnel, the 51-year-old wore a grey suit, white shirt, brown neckerchief, brown boots, and sunglasses, offering no comments to reporters gathered outside. Daily Mail added that he faces three counts of rape, three counts of sexual assault, and one count of indecent assault spanning a ten-year period from 1999 to 2009.
Mr Brand Faces Multiple Rape and Sexual Assault Charges
The allegations encompass incidents across multiple UK locations. Court filings cited by Daily Mail accuse Mr Brand of raping a woman in a hotel room in Bournemouth during a Labour Party conference in 1999, grabbing a TV worker’s breasts and forcing her into a sex act in a male toilet in 2004, and pushing a radio station worker against a wall before groping her. The remaining charges involve an alleged rape and sexual assault in London in 2009 concerning two further women.

Judge Joel Bennathan addressed the jury pool regarding the high-profile nature of the case, telling prospective jurors, “We are about to start the trial of one Mr Russell Brand.” The judge instructed the jury pool to exclude anyone who had viewed a specific television documentary or read extensive newspaper coverage from approximately three years prior, referencing the September 2023 joint investigation by Channel 4’s Dispatches, The Times, and The Sunday Times titled Russell Brand: In Plain Sight.
Denial of Allegations and Defense Stance
Mr Brand has consistently denied all accusations of non-consensual sexual activity. In an April 2025 video addressing initial charges, he stated, “I was a fool before I lived in the light of the Lord. I was a drug addict, a sex addict and an imbecile, but what I never was, was a rapist.” He added, “I’ve never engaged in non-consensual activity. I pray that you can see that by looking in my eyes,” expressing gratitude for the opportunity to defend himself in court.
Trial Duration and Schedule
With jury selection underway on October 12, 2026, the trial at Southwark Crown Court is expected to last between six and ten weeks, according to reports from Daily Mail. The prosecution and defense will present evidence and testimony before the newly seated jury.
