Jakarta,Indonesia – September 17,2025 – the Indonesian rupiah closed marginally higher against the US dollar today,reaching Rp16,437 per USD following Bank Indonesia’s (BI) latest benchmark interest rate reduction.
The rupiah’s performance comes amid fluctuating currency valuations across Asia, influenced by global economic conditions and monetary policy adjustments. The slight strengthening of the rupiah-a gain of 3 points or 0.02%-impacts Indonesian importers,exporters,and foreign investment,while the broader economic implications of BI’s rate cut are still unfolding. The US dollar index rose 0.19 points, or 0.19%, to 96.82 at 15:10 WIB.
According to Bloomberg data, the rupiah opened stronger at IDR 16,426 per US dollar at 09:09 WIB, representing a 0.09% increase. The US dollar also saw a slight increase,rising 0.09% to 96.71 at the same time.
Across the region, currency movements were mixed.The Japanese Yen weakened 0.12% and 0.05% during the day’s trading, while the Hong Kong dollar, Singapore dollar, Taiwan dollar, and South Korean Won experienced varying degrees of fluctuation. The Philippine peso, Indian rupee, Chinese Yuan, Malaysian ringgit, and Thai baht also showed mixed results, with some strengthening and others weakening against the US dollar.
