COLUMBIA, Mo. – A brace from junior forward Kate runyon propelled the No. 5/6 Tennessee Lady Volunteers to a 2-0 victory over Missouri Thursday night. The win improves TennesseeS record to 7-1-1, while Missouri falls to 4-4-1.
The Lady Vols have now recorded eight clean sheets in nine games this season and boast a +20 goal differential. Runyon‘s two goals mark the fourth time this season a Tennessee player has registered multiple goals in a single match.
The game remained scoreless until the 45th minute when Runyon capitalized on a rebound following saves by Missouri goalkeeper kate Phillips on shots from Reese Mattern and Skylar Miller.
Runyon extended the lead to 2-0 in the 56th minute, finishing a play initiated by a long pass from senior defender Ally brown.
Tennessee goalkeeper Cayden Norris secured the shutout with three saves, including a leaping stop in the 81st minute, bringing her season total to 21. Phillips finished with seven saves for Missouri.
The Lady Vols outshot the Tigers 12-5,with nine shots on goal,and earned five corner kicks.Landis Canada recorded a pair of shots for Missouri.
Tennessee returns home to Regal Stadium Sunday for a 2 p.m.ET matchup versus LSU.
