Ruben Onsu Seeks Peaceful Settlement in Investment Fraud Case
Indonesian presenter Ruben Onsu is pursuing a restorative justice path through his legal team to resolve an ongoing investment fraud case, having already returned Rp100 million to the reporting party as he prepares for a formal police interrogation scheduled for August 28, 2026, according to coverage from CNN Indonesia and Faktual Indonesia.
The legal friction centers on a commercial dispute first filed in August 2025 by an individual identified as P, representing a complainant named DM. According to Faktual Indonesia, the underlying matter involves an alleged fraud and embezzlement scheme tied to a product trading business utilizing a profit-sharing model. Following an investigative process spanning nearly a year, the South Jakarta Metro Police escalated the case to a formal investigation phase in April 2026, culminating in an official suspect designation following a case screening on August 20, 2026.
Machi Ahmad, representing the presenter, confirmed that his client is actively engaging with the complainant’s legal team to explore mediation.
“We agree that in handling this Ruben Onsu case, we prioritize tabayun, prioritizing persuasive methods,” Machi Ahmad stated at the South Jakarta Metro Police, as reported by Faktual Indonesia. “And from the complainant’s legal counsel, they also want to resolve this without continuing to the trial stage.”
Financial Demands and Restorative Justice Terms
According to case filings cited by Kompas.com and Faktual Indonesia, the complainant is seeking total restitution of approximately Rp4,4 billion, a figure that aggregates an initial investment capital of Rp3,5 billion alongside accumulated interest.
Despite the steep financial demand, the defense maintains that the artist intends to meet his obligations responsibly. As part of these ongoing out-of-court negotiations, Ruben has already transferred an initial payment of Rp100 million back to the complainant, according to Faktual Indonesia. This partial reimbursement serves as the primary anchor for the current push toward restorative justice, a mechanism designed to bypass a public trial.
“Mas Ruben, he will certainly take responsibility,” Machi Ahmad said, according to Faktual Indonesia. “At least, we don’t want to if this can still be finished here with mediation, with a restorative justice mechanism, why should it continue like that?”
Upcoming Procedural Timeline and Legal Cooperation
The immediate legal hurdle for the defense involves an upcoming mandatory appearance before investigators. According to detikNews, the South Jakarta Metro Police have officially summoned Ruben Onsu for his initial examination as a suspect on August 28, 2026. Representatives have confirmed that the entertainer will attend the session and cooperate fully with law enforcement officers.

While ANTARA News Makassar reports that authorities have not enacted a detention order against the entertainer, the looming interrogation date places immediate pressure on both legal teams to finalize a binding settlement agreement before formal charges are locked in for trial prosecution.
As the late August appearance date approaches, the trajectory of the case depends heavily on whether the financial terms of the mediation can bridge the gap between the Rp4,4 billion total demand and the initial Rp100 million repayment already executed.
