Following an investigative process spanning nearly a year, the South Jakarta Metro Police escalated the case to a formal investigation phase in April 2026, culminating in an official suspect designation following a case screening on August 20, 2026.
Machi Ahmad, representing the presenter, confirmed that his client is actively engaging with the complainant’s legal team to explore mediation.
“We agree that in handling this Ruben Onsu case, we prioritize tabayun, prioritizing persuasive methods,” Machi Ahmad stated at the South Jakarta Metro Police, as reported by Faktual Indonesia. “And from the complainant’s legal counsel, they also want to resolve this without continuing to the trial stage.”
Financial Demands and Restorative Justice Terms

As part of these ongoing out-of-court negotiations, Ruben has already transferred an initial payment of Rp100 million back to the complainant, according to Faktual Indonesia. “Mas Ruben, he will certainly take responsibility,” Machi Ahmad said, according to Faktual Indonesia. “At least, we don’t want to if this can still be finished here with mediation, with a restorative justice mechanism, why should it continue like that?”
