Royce Keys WrestleMania 42 Plans: Update on WWE Storyline
Kit Wilson, the former NXT Tag Team Champion, is scheduled to publicly challenge Grammy Award-winning musician Jelly Roll on tomorrow’s episode of “WWE SmackDown,” according to reports. The planned confrontation comes as speculation mounts regarding a potential WrestleMania 42 match for Jelly Roll, though the involvement of Royce Keys appears to have been sidelined.
Wrestling journalist Dave Meltzer reported that, despite previous discussions, Keys – formerly known as Powerhouse Hobbs in AEW – is not currently slated to be part of any WrestleMania plans involving Jelly Roll. “I kind of wonder where they’re going with Jelly Roll, if they’re going to turn that into [something],” Meltzer said on “Wrestling Observer Radio.” “It just feels to me they’re going to build some gimmick match with him and Kit Wilson and maybe a tag [match] with Miz because The Miz has been involved in the storyline. They could do that. I had asked about the story because there was a story about Royce Keys, and I was told that it’s not Royce Keys, for whatever that’s worth.”
Keys debuted in WWE as a surprise entrant in the 2026 Men’s Royal Rumble after departing from All Elite Wrestling in January. Since then, he has participated in a series of dark matches against “SmackDown” brand talent, but has not yet appeared in a televised match under his new name.
Jelly Roll’s path to a potential WrestleMania 42 match began last week when he encountered both Wilson and The Miz on WWE’s “SmackDown,” culminating in a physical altercation where The Miz was struck. The nature of any potential match, and whether Jelly Roll will have a tag team partner, remains unclear.
