Rosalía’s ’LUX’ Shatters Spotify record for a Spanish-Speaking Female Artist
Rosalía’s highly anticipated album, LUX, has achieved a monumental milestone, becoming the most streamed album in a single day on Spotify by a Spanish-speaking female artist. The record-breaking debut underscores Rosalía’s continued ascent as a global music icon and signals a meaningful moment for Latin music representation on the world’s leading streaming platform.
Released last month, LUX arrived following the preview single “Berghain,” a collaboration with Björk and Yves Tumor, and builds upon Rosalía’s established sound while venturing into new sonic territories. The album’s critical acclaim-described by one review as ”an astonishing record – one that continuously stops you dead in your tracks”-has translated into unprecedented listener engagement, solidifying Rosalía’s position at the forefront of contemporary music. This achievement not only celebrates Rosalía’s artistry but also paves the way for greater visibility and recognition of Spanish-language music within the global streaming landscape.
LUX features 18 tracks spanning just over an hour and showcases Rosalía’s lyrical depth, with verses sung in Spanish. One excerpt translates to: “Me, who lost my hands in Jerez and my eyes in Rome / I grew up, and learned shamelessness somewhere around Barcelona / I lost my tongue in Paris, my time in LA / My heels in Milan, my smile in the UK.”
The album’s creation involved a diverse range of collaborators, including Björk, with whom Rosalía previously duetted on “Oral” in 2023, and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo of Daft Punk, who co-wrote the song “Reliquia.” Additional writing credits include Caroline Shaw, David Rodriguez, Dylan Wiggins, Noah Goldstein, and Ryan Tedder.
