RoS Probes Bersatu Complaint Over Perikatan Nasional Membership Status

August 11, 2026 Lucas Fernandez – World Editor World

The Registrar of Societies Malaysia (RoS) officially confirmed on August 11, 2026, that it is examining a formal complaint lodged by Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia regarding its membership status within the Perikatan Nasional coalition and its exclusion from a July 16 supreme council meeting, according to statements released by the department and reported by Bernama and The Vibes.

Regulatory Review Under the Societies Act 1966

Registrar of Societies officials stated that the departmental review is proceeding under the Societies Act 1966 (Act 832), the Societies Regulations 1984, the organization’s approved constitution, and official departmental records. According to the RoS statement, the agency is examining all information, documents, and explanations submitted by the concerned parties to ensure a comprehensive assessment based on the law currently in force. The department emphasized its role as a professional and impartial regulator with no financial or political interest in any registered organization or political party.

Internal Coalition Friction and Disputed Membership Claims

The regulatory filing follows an escalating internal dispute within Perikatan Nasional over Bersatu’s standing in the coalition. PAS president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang previously asserted that Bersatu’s membership automatically lapsed after Bersatu president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin announced intentions to form a new political coalition, as covered by Malaysiakini and Free Malaysia Today. In response, Bersatu information chief Datuk Tun Faisal Ismail Aziz accused PAS of using Perikatan Nasional to advance unilateral political objectives that allegedly infringed upon member party rights and violated the coalition constitution, according to reporting by The Vibes.

Takiyuddin Hassan further stated that the coalition stands prepared to provide an official explanation if summoned by the Registrar of Societies to address the grievances raised in the Bersatu complaint.

Legal and Administrative Implications for Registered Societies

Under Malaysian administrative law, registered societies must strictly adhere to their governing constitutions and statutory reporting requirements. If procedural breaches are identified during the current examination, the regulatory body holds the authority to issue directives requiring corrective administrative action or formal reconciliation between the constituent parties.
