Romanian Government Denies Corruption Link to Deputy Prime Minister

Vice Prime Minister Dragoș Anastasiu‘s companies paid over €150,000 in bribes to an ANAF inspector for eight consecutive years to avoid issues wiht controls, according to a DNA investigation.

The investigation, wich concluded two years ago with a definitive sentence for the inspector who accepted the bribe, revealed that anastasiu himself acknowledged the payments to the tax authority employee both during the DNA proceedings and before judges. While Anastasiu and his employees were not charged, this was reportedly due to his business partner filing the DNA complaint.

A government spokesperson has stated that the circumstances of the case are unrelated to the Deputy Prime Minister’s capacity or his duties.
