Rolling Laughs to End Season With Free Show at Old State Capitol Plaza

Rolling Laughs to End Season With Free Show at Old State Capitol Plaza

Comedian Cassandra Simpson wrapped up the inaugural season of “Rolling Laughs,” a mobile comedy venue built from an old camper that traveled to multiple Springfield-area locations, Capitol City Now reported. The venture hosted comedians, entertainers, and children’s events throughout the summer months to positive public reception.

Camper Stage Draws Positive Local Interest

Simpson discussed the project’s launch on the WTAX Morning Newswatch, noting that the unique setup generated immediate local interest. “Any project that I do, I just tend on focusing on it,” Simpson said. “This is my project for now, and hopefully it stays my project. It’s been fun.” The conversion of a camper into a traveling stage allowed the project to reach various neighborhoods without relying on traditional brick-and-mortar infrastructure.

Despite initial worries about how the public might judge a homemade venue, the response proved largely positive. “I always get compliments, and people are like, ‘I can’t believe you did that.’ I was like, ‘Me, either,'” Simpson said. “People are usually impressed. Sometimes, with a project or anything I build, I worry that people are going to say, ‘You could have done this,’ or, ‘You could have done that.’ But, this is so new that nobody knows what to say.”

Rolling Laughs Ends Season on October 23

The final show of the Rolling Laughs season is scheduled for October 23 at 7:30 p.m. on the Old State Capitol Plaza downtown. The event is free and will feature Simpson alongside a lineup of up-and-coming comedians, marking at least the third time the mobile venue has operated downtown this year.

Before Rolling Laughs resumes operations next spring, Simpson maintains an active performing schedule. Upcoming appearances include a Friday night set in Chatham at The Range Bourbon & Brew, followed by a performance at the Zanies comedy club in the Chicago area.
