Rocky Flintoff, the 17-year-old son of former England cricketer Freddie Flintoff, has signed a two-year contract extension with Lancashire, securing his future with the county until 2027.

The all-rounder, who made his List A debut for Lancashire in July 2024 at the age of 16 years and 113 days – becoming the club’s youngest-ever player – has quickly established himself as a rising star within the Lancashire system. He has since appeared in five County Championship matches and accumulated 180 runs in List A cricket.

Flintoff’s rapid ascent continued with a record-breaking performance for England Under-19s, where he became the youngest centurion in the team’s history, surpassing a 25-year-old record previously held by Ian Bell. He further cemented his reputation as a prodigious talent by becoming the youngest England Lions centurion against Cricket Australia in January 2025, exceeding the record previously held by his father, Freddie Flintoff.

The contract extension also includes deals for fellow Lancashire academy graduates Tom Aspinwall, 21, and Charlie Barnard, 21, highlighting the club’s commitment to nurturing homegrown talent.

Mark Chilton, Lancashire’s director of cricket performance, emphasized the importance of securing the futures of these young players. “We are really pleased to secure the futures of Tom, Charlie and Rocky – underlining the club’s continued commitment to investing in, and developing, our own homegrown talent,” Chilton said. “All three players are of extremely high potential and have progressed through our pathway system to develop an impression at first-team level. Their continued development is central to our future plans.”

Flintoff’s signature comes as he balances his cricket commitments with his education at The Manchester Grammar School. He was recently included in the wildcard draft for The Hundred, alongside experienced England bowler James Anderson, according to Sky Sports reports.

The Times of India reported that Flintoff recently played against Vaibhav Suryavanshi, further broadening his experience against emerging talents in the cricketing world.
