Harrisonburg‘s Rocktown House of Music strikes a Chord with Community-Focused Lessons

HARRISONBURG, VA – A new music instruction facility, Rocktown House of Music, is opening its doors in Harrisonburg, aiming to foster connection and musical growth for residents of all ages and skill levels. Located off Mt. Clinton Pike, the school emphasizes group learning environments designed to build community through music.

Founded on the belief that music is inherently communal, Rocktown House of music is the vision of President Trent Wagler and Creative Director John Hostetter. Both men cite formative experiences with music as central to their upbringing and personal development.

“Music has always meant community to me,” Hostetter explained, highlighting the power of shared musical experiences, whether in small or large groups. Wagler echoed this sentiment, recalling a childhood steeped in music – from family singalongs and church events to early opportunities to perform on stage. “It felt like an activity like ‘do you know how to swim?’ Do you know how to sing? It was just a part of my life,” he saeid.

The school’s core mission is to create an inclusive space where anyone, irrespective of prior experience, can explore their musical potential. “We’ve had a couple of small events hear where people come in and they’re able to play music,” Hostetter noted, describing the joy of hearing music fill the space.Wagler acknowledged that stepping outside one’s comfort zone can be daunting, notably in a group setting. However, he stressed the transformative power of a supportive musical environment. “There’s something really freeing about that,” he said. “Whether you’re well into your 50s, 60s, and 70-year-olds, you can still pick something up and learn something. It gives you this connecting point with other people.”

Registration for classes is now open. Interested individuals can find more data about course offerings and expectations on the Rocktown House of Music website: https://rocktownhouseofmusic.com. The fall semester is scheduled to begin on September 1st.
