Robinson Parents Seek Justice at Mexico Murder Trial

Robinson Parents Seek Justice at Mexico Murder Trial

October 2, 2026 Lucas Fernandez – World Editor World

The murder trial of three Mexican men accused of killing Australian brothers Jake and Callum Robinson and their American friend Carter Rhoad is nearing its conclusion in Ensenada, Mexico. A judge is expected to deliver a verdict on the morning of October 9, 2026, following closing arguments scheduled for the previous day.

The courtroom proceedings in Ensenada

For the past four weeks, the trial has unfolded in a small, sparse courtroom in Ensenada. The facility features tiled floors, white fluorescent lighting, and a public gallery with space for approximately a dozen attendees. This case is being decided by a single judge rather than a jury.

The three accused men—identified as Jesus Gerardo, also known as “El Kakas,” Irineo Francisco, and Angel Jesus—have appeared in court wearing orange prison jumpsuits with their ankles cuffed. Throughout the hearings, the men have remained largely silent. During Wednesday’s session, Angel Jesus briefly addressed the judge to confirm his understanding of the upcoming procedural steps.

The parents’ search for justice

Debra and Martin Robinson have attended every day of the trial, sitting behind the prosecution bench. The couple, who established the Callum and Jake Robinson Foundation following the deaths of their sons, participated in the court session on October 2 by reading a brief statement to the judge.

Debra Robinson expressed gratitude to the court for its attention to the case and noted that she and her husband have flights booked to return to Australia on October 9. She requested that the verdict be delivered before their departure, stating, “It would mean so much for us, as parents of Jake and Callum, to be here for the verdict. We have travelled such a long way to seek justice for our sons and Carter.”

Procedural timeline and final arguments

The judge confirmed the schedule for the final phase of the trial during the October 2 hearing. Closing arguments are set to take place on October 8, with the verdict to follow the next morning. This timeline allows the Robinsons to be present for the decision, though sentencing is expected to occur the following week.

The courtroom environment is tightly controlled. Visitors and members of the press are required to pre-register, pass through a metal detector, and deposit all electronic devices outside the room. The hearing on October 2 was efficient, concluding in less than an hour. Following the session, the judge met with both the defense attorneys and the Robinson family to conclude the day’s proceedings.

Trial focuses on final arguments

As the trial concludes, the focus remains on the final arguments scheduled for October 8, 2026.
