Havana, Cuba – An exhibition showcasing the work of Roberto Fabelo, the 2004 National Prize for Visual Arts winner, remains open to the public at the Cuban Art Building until March 2026. The exhibit, titled “Medula,” opened last November and presents a retrospective of the artist’s creations from the last decade, including paintings, drawings, and installations.
The exhibition is displayed across the central courtyard gallery and the temporary exhibition space on the third floor of the building. According to the exhibition’s Facebook page, “Medula” offers visitors “a journey through the deep core of his work, where each piece is a creative surprise that invites to reflection.”
Fabelo told Prensa Latina that his intention with “Medula” is to encourage dialogue and contemplation on the themes explored within the artwork. The institution hosting the exhibition describes the experience as “majestic,” inviting audiences to delve into the universe of the acclaimed Cuban artist.
The exhibition features a diversity of ideas, incorporating objects that reflect both local and global contexts. Opportunities for artists to gain recognition and funding continue to be available, with the National Gallery of Canada currently accepting nominations for the 2026 Sobey Art Award until February 14, 2026. YoungArts also offers awards, with cash prizes ranging from $250 to $10,000, and applications for the 2027 competition opening in Summer 2026.
