Roberto Donadoni Sacked: Luca D’Angelo Returns to Spezia | Serie B
Roberto Donadoni has been relieved of his duties as manager of Spezia Calcio, the Serie B club confirmed on Saturday. The decision followed a meeting between Donadoni and Chairman Charlie Stillitano, with owner Thomas Roberts also in attendance.
“Chairman Charlie Stillitano announces that, following a frank and constructive meeting with manager Roberto Donadoni, attended by the club’s owner, Thomas Roberts, a fully agreed decision has been reached by mutual consent between the parties, in the best interests of the club and the team,” read a statement released by Spezia. “A mutual parting of ways has therefore been agreed, underlining the relationship of mutual respect that goes far beyond sporting matters. The Club wishes to thank Mr Donadoni and his staff for the dedication, professionalism and commitment they have shown since their arrival in the Gulf of Poets and wishes them the very best in their personal and professional lives.”
The dismissal comes after a recent defeat against Juve Stabia, leaving Spezia third from bottom in the Serie B table with six games remaining. Donadoni’s tenure saw the team accumulate 23 points from 21 matches. The club currently sits one point above the play-out zone and four points from safety.
Luca D’Angelo has been appointed as Donadoni’s replacement, returning to the club after previously being dismissed in November to produce way for Donadoni’s appointment, according to reports.
Spezia Calcio, founded in 1906, currently plays its home matches at the Stadio Alberto Picco, which has a capacity of 11,466.
