Robert Eggers eyes Nosferatu gang for Werwulf

Eggers Recruits Dafoe, Depp for Ambitious Werewolf Saga ‘Werwulf’

Director Continues Collaborations Following ‘Nosferatu’ Success

Renowned director Robert Eggers, fresh off the success of his vampire thriller *Nosferatu*, is reportedly set to reunite with Willem Dafoe and Lily-Rose Depp for his next feature, an epic werewolf tale titled *Werwulf*. Aaron Taylor-Johnson is already attached to star in the project, continuing Eggers’ pattern of working with familiar talent.

A Familiar Ensemble Takes Shape

The filmmaker, known for his immersive historical dramas and commitment to period authenticity, is building a formidable cast for his upcoming film. Dafoe, a frequent collaborator who previously featured in Eggers’ *The Lighthouse* and *The Northman*, is in talks to join the project. Lily-Rose Depp, whose performance in *Nosferatu* earned high praise from Eggers, is also being eyed for a role.

“As soon as I met her, it was clear [that she was his star],” Eggers told Yahoo Entertainment last year. “Then she auditioned, and it was every bit as powerful as I expected and just as raw and ferocious as you see on the screen. I’m so proud of what she accomplished in this film.”

Deep Dive into the Dark Ages

Eggers’ distinctive style is expected to permeate *Werwulf*, which is slated for a 13th-century English setting and will reportedly feature dialogue in Old English, complete with translations. This approach mirrors the linguistic authenticity seen in his debut feature, *The Witch*. The director has described *Werwulf* as “the darkest thing [he’s] ever written. By far.”

This trend of directorial casting recall is not uncommon in Hollywood; director Mike Flanagan is also known for frequently collaborating with the same actors. In 2023, the global box office grossed over $26 billion, highlighting the continued audience demand for cinematic experiences (Statista).

Further Collaborations and Future Projects

While details remain scarce, the potential addition of Dafoe and Depp to the *Werwulf* ensemble signals a strong creative synergy between the actors and director. The trio are also reportedly in discussions for an adaptation of *A Christmas Carol* for Warner Bros. It remains to be seen if other *Nosferatu* cast members, such as Bill Skarsgård or Nicholas Hoult, will join the wolf pack.

The supernatural genre continues to draw top talent, as seen in films like “What We Do In The Shadows.”

Eggers’ dedication to historical detail and challenging narratives has cemented his reputation as a singular voice in contemporary cinema. Fans eagerly anticipate how the director will tackle the werewolf mythology in *Werwulf*, a project that promises to be as captivating as it is historically grounded.
