Robbie Williams performs biggest pre-Cup set at Flemington Racecourse
Robbie Williams stepped onto Flemington Racecourse wearing a bedazzled suit adorned with horses, checked his fly, and launched into “Feel” as the biggest pre-Cup performance ever staged at Flemington Racecourse got underway, Nine reported.
The 52-year-old two-time Grammy nominee kept a quick check of his zipper before joining backup dancers in white who handled impressive umbrella choreography. He moved straight into “Rock DJ,” getting the crowd on its feet before turning his attention directly toward the trophy itself.
Williams serenaded the actual Melbourne Cup trophy with a rendition of “Angels.” By the time the chorus arrived, the audience joined him in singing every single word while holding up champagne flutes and phones. He closed out the pre-race set with “Let Me Entertain You.”
The staging marked the singer’s first Australian concert appearance ahead of his BRITPOP World Tour. Earlier, Williams spoke to the Today program about returning to the country.
Australia knows how to be an audience. We know what’s about to happen, and we know when it goes right, it’s magic. [Australia] is ready, I’m ready, I’ve just missed them.
