Expired Products Spark Concern at Latvian Retailer Rimi
Liepaja, Latvia – Customers are raising alarms after multiple reports surfaced of expired products being sold at Rimi stores across Latvia. A Threads user, @tuktkeuw, initially shared a discovery on August 10th: a “picnik” cheese for kids with a July 5th, 2025 expiration date – over a month past its sell-by date. The user reported finding additional expired packages during a return visit to the Rimi Ostmala location in Liepaja. According to the post, a store cashier appeared unaware of the issue until the expiration dates were pointed out.
The initial post ignited a wave of similar complaints online. One commenter recounted feeding her 7-month-old infant “I Love Ecco“ apple and cinnamon porridge that had expired on April 28th, 2025, finding shelves stocked with the outdated product. Another customer described being advised by a Rimi employee to simply re-shelve expired bread and select a fresher loaf.
Numerous social media users echoed these experiences, reporting frequent encounters with dairy products nearing or past their expiration dates, often discovered only after purchase. Many emphasized the need for vigilant self-checking of expiration dates while shopping at Rimi.
As of today, Rimi has not issued a formal public response to the growing concerns, prompting ironic commentary from customers on social media, with one user noting, “The main thing is that there is no comment on such posts @Rimi.” The incidents raise questions about the effectiveness of quality control and monitoring procedures within the retailer.
