Riga, Latvia – Commuters in Riga can now enjoy a more integrated and cost-effective public transport experience with the launch of the ‘Riga Single Ticket,’ a new initiative combining train and city transport services. Introduced on July 15th by train operator Vivi and Rīgas Satiksme, the city’s public transport authority, the ticket aims to simplify travel and encourage greater use of sustainable transit options.
Effective July 24th, passengers can purchase the ‘Riga Single Ticket’ for €2, offering a saving of €1 per journey. This new ticket provides access to one day ticket for the Zone A train network, including connecting services within the zone, and a 90-minute ticket for use on Riga’s buses, trams, and trolleybuses. This collaboration is designed to make public transport more competitive with private car usage and to enhance the daily commuting experience for thousands of residents.
“With the Riga Single Ticket we are making public transport more accessible, more convenient and more competitive than private cars,” stated Raitis Nešpors, Chairman of the Board of Vivi. “We aim to facilitate easy and understandable transfers between different modes of transport, improving the daily commuting experience for thousands of passengers. This is a step towards an integrated, environmentally pleasant and sustainable commuting system in Riga.”
Džineta Innusa, Chairwoman of the Board of Rīgas Satiksme, echoed this sentiment, highlighting the ticket as a foundational step towards even more user-friendly public transport. “It gives passengers the prospect to combine train and Rīga public transport journeys easily and cost-effectively, saving both time and money,” she commented.
The ‘Riga Single Ticket’ is exclusively available in a digital format, accessible via the Vivi latvija mobile application and the vivi.lv website. This pilot project is slated to run for one year from its launch date, during which its effectiveness, user satisfaction, and potential areas for advancement will be thoroughly assessed before any decision on its permanent implementation is made.
