PHILADELPHIA, PA – Rider University field hockey suffered a 5-0 defeat against Drexel University Friday afternoon, extending the Dragons’ lead in the all-time series. The loss drops Rider to 1-3 on the season as they prepare for their home and Northeast Conference (NEC) opener next week.
The Broncs generated the initial scoring opportunity within the frist five minutes, but Valeria Perales’ shot on a corner deflected wide. Drexel capitalized, scoring late in the first and second quarters to establish a 2-0 halftime advantage. The Dragons continued their offensive pressure in the second half, adding goals in the third and two more in the fourth to finalize the score.
Jade Regnart started in goal for Rider, playing the full 60 minutes and recording 10 saves. Ang Borisow, Megan Normile, Anna Finn, and Emma Bonshak each played all 60 minutes as field players for the Broncs. Drexel held a important advantage in shots, 26-4, and shots on goal, 15-3, while also earning nine penalty corners compared to Rider’s three.
Rider returns to action next Friday, September 15th, hosting Stonehill College at 4 p.m.in their NEC and home opener.
