Goshen,VA – A vintage steam engine will once again pull passengers through the vibrant fall foliage of the Shenandoah Valley this October,as the Virginia Scenic railway announces the return of its Shenandoah Valley Limited excursions. beginning September 26th adn running through October 26th, the railway will offer a unique 3.5-hour round-trip journey departing from a Victorian-era depot in Goshen, Virginia.
The Shenandoah Valley Limited joins the railway’s existing signature excursions, including the Blue Ridge Flyer and the sip and Savor Express, which highlights Virginia wines. The 1950 steamer, built in Roanoke, Virginia, is on loan from the Virginia Museum of Transportation through a partnership with the Steam Railroading Institute and the Virginia Mechanical preservation Society. Passengers can enjoy water and light bites during the ride, which showcases the region’s rolling countryside.
Ticket options range from Coach ($128) and Premium Coach ($149) to Table Class ($202). A particularly sought-after experience is available in the Dome Class ($318)-a circa 1948 passenger car formerly owned by country music legend Merle Haggard, offering panoramic views. Children two years old and under ride free on a ticketed adult’s lap.
“With the combination of this steam engine, these passenger cars, the Shenandoah Valley mountain views in fall, and the mainline track speeds,” said railway representative Powell, “this will be a trip that people will remember for years.”
