the Richmond Ramblers, a local motorcycle club founded in 2018 by Richmond resident Michael “Mickey” Davis, have been actively involved in community fundraising for the past five years. This year’s poker run aimed to address the increasing need for food assistance within Contra Costa County, notably as the holiday season approaches. The route included stops in Concord, Pittsburg, Antioch, and Martinez, showcasing the diverse landscapes of the region.
Participants paid a $40 entry fee, which included a commemorative event t-shirt and a chance to win prizes based on the best poker hand. Prizes were donated by local businesses, including a $200 gift certificate to Cycle Gear in Concord, a motorcycle detailing package from Shine Time Detailing in Pittsburg, and a selection of riding gear from RevZilla. The final stop featured a raffle and awards ceremony.
According to event organizer Sarah Chen, the Ramblers raised a total of $3,200 for the Contra costa County Food Bank. “We were thrilled with the turnout and the generosity of the riders and local businesses,” Chen stated. “Every dollar raised will go directly towards providing meals for families in need.” The contra Costa County Food Bank currently serves over 250,000 individuals each month, a 15% increase compared to last year.
The Richmond Ramblers plan to make the poker run an annual event, with hopes of expanding the route and attracting even more participants in the future.
