“I know where the bodies are buried and the traps are laid and kind of understand the environment,” **Rodriguez** said during Big 12 media days.

A Coaching Odyssey

**Rodriguez** began his coaching career remarkably young, leading Salem at 24 in 1988 and later taking over at Glenville State. After a five-year break from head coaching, **Rodriguez** revitalized his career at Jacksonville State, securing nine wins in each of his three seasons, which paved the way for his return to West Virginia. This success was pivotal in earning another shot with the Mountaineers.

“I’m a smarter and better coach than I was a week ago, let alone 20 years ago,” **Rodriguez** stated, highlighting his growth and experience.

Remembering Past Success

Overcoming Past Conflicts

His initial departure from West Virginia was marked by disputes over assistant coach salaries and disagreements with the athletic director. Despite a less-than-smooth exit, **Rodriguez** is focused on the future.

Focus on Winning

**Rodriguez** is prioritizing decisions that lead to success on the field. His return to West Virginia represents a chance to apply lessons learned and potentially lead the Mountaineers to new heights.
