IBIZA, SPAIN ⁣- ‌A restaurant on the Spanish island of ibiza is facing online backlash after a bill⁤ showing a €27.50‌ charge for cutting a birthday cake brought by ​customers went⁣ viral. The incident, initially shared by the X (formerly Twitter) ​account “Soy Camarero“⁣ (“I am ‌a waiter”), has⁢ ignited a debate over fair restaurant practices.

According to⁤ the account, which shares unusual stories from the hospitality industry, a group of eleven friends celebrating ‌a​ birthday were charged the fee⁤ for slicing the cake⁤ they provided themselves. The total bill amounted to €697, ⁢or €63.36 per person,⁣ including €4.50 for a small beer and €5 for a‌ cola.

The surcharge sparked outrage online, with ‍one user calling it “madness.” Others defended the restaurant, arguing that staff time has ‌value. Some commenters ‌suggested⁢ the restaurant should have disclosed the fee before cutting the‍ cake.

The⁣ incident was also reported by the “Mallorca⁤ Zeitung.” The restaurant is⁢ located ⁤in the​ Santa Eulalia area of Ibiza.
