Resident Evil: Code Veronica Remake – New Details & Changes Revealed
Capcom is reportedly moving forward with a remake of Resident Evil: Code Veronica, with the project now led by the directorial duo behind the critically acclaimed remakes of Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 4. Kazunori Kadoi and Yasuhiro Anpo are confirmed to be directing the new installment, according to industry insider Dusk Golem.
While Capcom has not officially announced the remake, details have begun to emerge regarding the scope and approach to the project. Golem asserts that the remake will not cut any content from the original 2000 release, but will instead “heavily remix” existing material. “I hear it’s the remake with the most things changed or happening differently than you may remember,” Golem stated, adding that “every enemy, location, major event, is there & much even expanded.”
The remake is expected to significantly expand the role of Chris Redfield, Capcom’s realization that this is his first appearance in the RE Engine remakes as a younger self is driving the decision. Claire Redfield will remain the central protagonist, with her storyline receiving even greater emphasis than in the original game. According to Golem, Chris’s portion of the game will conclude earlier, shifting the narrative focus back to Claire for the final act.
The development of Resident Evil: Code Veronica Remake follows the success of Resident Evil Requiem, the latest mainline entry in the franchise. Capcom is reportedly treating the Code Veronica remake as a mainline, substantial-budget title. The project’s direction is inspired by the original game, but with substantial alterations and expansions.
Dusk Golem has a proven track record of accurately leaking information regarding the Resident Evil franchise, though Capcom has yet to confirm any of the reported details. The leaker previously revealed details about Leon Kennedy’s playable character status in Resident Evil Requiem.
