Research Methodology
Research & Verification Methodology
Authority comes from verification.
At World Today News, we believe that in an era of generative AI and misinformation, the “human in the loop” is the ultimate safeguard. Our research methodology is rigorous, transparent, and designed to withstand academic scrutiny.
1. The Hierarchy of Evidence
We do not treat all information equally. Every claim made in our analysis must be substantiated by a hierarchy of sources. We categorize evidence into three distinct tiers:
Tier I: Primary Documentation
This is the gold standard. Whenever possible, our reporting relies on the source document itself. This includes:
- Legislative Texts: Official bills, treaties, and parliamentary records.
- Financial Filings: SEC 10-Ks, Central Bank balance sheets, and earnings transcripts.
- Judicial Records: Court transcripts, affidavits, and sentencing memorandums.
- Scientific Literature: Peer-reviewed studies (essential for our Health and Technology desks).
Tier II: Corroborated Attribution
When documents are unavailable, we rely on direct attribution from verified actors. This requires:
- On-the-record statements from government officials or corporate executives.
- Official communiqués from NGOs or international bodies (e.g., UN, IMF, WHO).
- Verified visual evidence (satellite imagery or unedited raw footage).
Tier III: Contextual Data
To provide depth, we integrate historical data, polling averages, and precedent from trusted think tanks (e.g., Brookings, Chatham House). We clearly distinguish between reporting (what happened) and analysis (what it means).
2. Artificial Intelligence Protocol
We embrace technology but reject automation in authorship. Our AI policy is strict:
- Permitted: AI tools may be used for data sorting, translation of foreign diplomatic documents, and transcription.
- Prohibited: AI is never used to write final analysis or opinion. No article is published without human review.
- Verification: Any data point suggested by an algorithm must be manually back-traced to a primary source before publication.
3. The “Second Day” Review
Unlike breaking news wires, WTN employs a review cycle that prioritizes accuracy over speed. Before an analytical piece is published, it undergoes a structured review by the Section Editor to ensure the premise is supported by the evidence provided. Speculation is labeled clearly as “Forecast” or “Scenario Planning,” distinct from factual reporting.
