Westmorland and Furness Council Honors Remembrance with Poppy Displays and Flag Salutes
Westmorland and Furness Council is marking Remembrance sunday (November 9th) and Armistice Day (November 11th) with a visible display of respect, featuring the iconic red poppy on council buildings, libraries, care homes, and vehicles throughout the region. The tribute aims to honor the service and sacrifice of Armed Forces personnel, both past and present, and demonstrate ongoing support for the military community.
The council will fly the Union Flag at full mast from town hall buildings in Barrow,Kendal,and Penrith on both Remembrance Sunday and Armistice Day. Kendal Town Hall will be illuminated with red light and poppy projections, in collaboration with Kendal Town Council, while Barrow Town Hall will shine in the colors of the Union Jack. These displays accompany numerous commemorative events and services planned across Westmorland and furness, offering residents opportunities to pay their respects.
“Remembrance is a time for us all to come together to honour the courage and sacrifices of our Armed Forces,” said Councillor Vicky Hughes, Westmorland and Furness Council’s Cabinet Member for Planning, Active wellbeing and the Armed Forces. “It is an prospect to reflect on their bravery, remember those we have lost and show our support for those who serve and their families. Their dedication and sacrifice will never be forgotten.”
