Redstone Visa & Luxury Credit Cards: Financial Red Flags?

by Priya Shah – Business Editor

The Robinhood Gold Card, launched in February 2026, is proving to be a more nuanced offering than initial marketing suggested. While advertised as providing 3% cash back on all purchases, the card’s value is inextricably linked to a $5 monthly, or $50 annual, Robinhood Gold subscription.

The card, issued by Coastal Community Bank pursuant to a license from Visa U.S.A. Inc., is the exclusive credit card for Robinhood Gold members, a premium subscription service offered by Robinhood Gold, LLC. Robinhood Credit, Inc., the entity offering the card, is a financial technology company, not a traditional bank.

Despite the headline rate, analysis indicates the 3% cash back isn’t universally straightforward. A key component of the higher rewards is a 5% cash back incentive specifically for travel booked through the Robinhood Travel portal. This structure differentiates it from simpler, flat-rate cash back cards.

The card itself is constructed from stainless steel and weighs 17 grams. Beyond the cash back rewards, benefits include Trip Interruption Protection and the ability to create virtual card numbers for increased security. Robinhood is also emphasizing family-friendly features, allowing the addition of cardholders of any age, with tools for tracking spending and setting limits.

Individual credit limits are determined by applicant creditworthiness and are subject to approval. Robinhood Credit emphasizes that applying for the card will not impact a credit score unless the offer is accepted. Authorized users receive a physical card at no cost, with the option to upgrade to the stainless steel version for an additional fee.

The launch of the Robinhood Gold Card represents an expansion of Robinhood’s financial services beyond its commission-free trading app. The company is attempting to disrupt the cash-back card market, but the subscription requirement and the travel portal incentive add layers of complexity to the value proposition.
