Reddit Rolls Out TikTok-Style For You and Following Feeds

October 29, 2026 Rachel Kim – Technology Editor Technology

Reddit Introduces For You and Following Tabs in Global Rollout

Reddit is splitting its homepage layout into two dedicated feeds, introducing algorithm-driven discovery tabs to its platform worldwide as the platform rolls out “For You” and “Following” tabs over the next few weeks following user pushback over older design changes. The update arrives as Reddit continues a series of layout shifts that have phased out classic desktop views and restricted third-party access.

  • The deployment arrives after the deprecation of r/all in April 2026 and ongoing restrictions on third-party developer access and RSS feeds.
  • The company states the stricter developer policies and platform changes are necessary to manage a surge in AI-driven bot traffic and protect infrastructure.

Global Rollout Splits Homepage Views

The company confirmed in its blog post that the Hot sorting option is absent from the initial For You feed rollout, leaving only Best and New sorting methods available. Platform leadership previously announced they would move away from universal default pages like r/popular in late 2025, ultimately deprecating r/all in April 2026 to route traffic toward personalized home feeds.

Reddit Limits Data Access to Combat Bot Traffic

The interface updates coincide with aggressive platform-wide policy changes regarding data access and automated traffic. cnet.com reported that Reddit has eliminated traditional RSS feeds and limited access to classic desktop formats like Old Reddit. External applications attempting to maintain access to post archives must migrate to Reddit’s official developer framework. Reddit confirmed it is currently assisting approximately 14,000 apps with this technical migration.

Reddit attributed these stricter API boundaries to a dramatic surge in AI-driven bot traffic that has placed heavy burdens on company server infrastructure.

Users Disagree on New Homepage Sorting Options

User response to the homepage restructuring has been divided across community boards. Feedback on Reddit’s r/bugs community revealed that one user expected the Following tab to contain only subscribed communities rather than community recommendations as well. Platform representatives acknowledged the user feedback regarding sorting options and stated they are testing alternative configurations while the homepage experiment continues.

Reddit adds 'for you' feed — and more platform news today

Reddit framed the dual-feed mechanism as a primary discovery driver designed to guide users into specialized subreddits and broader conversations. The company stated that the algorithmic recommendations aim to connect users with novel perspectives and interests beyond their initial subscriptions.

Reddit Tests Dual Feeds to Drive Discovery

Reddit announced earlier today that it is rolling out the two distinct feeds on its homepage, similar to tabs used on TikTok, with the new feed experience already visible for some users on both desktop and mobile. The company stated that the two new feeds are part of its experiments to help people more intentionally explore Reddit. Framing the dual-feed change as a first step, the company wrote in its announcement, This new feed experience is a first step in helping drive discovery that leads to something novel and relevant, an idea, a connection, a unique perspective, or even a new interest, and added, A more human internet is not just something you sit back and watch, it is something you find value in and want to participate in.
