Real Madrid Eye Szoboszlai: Liverpool Fans Have No Reason to Worry

Real Madrid’s interest in Liverpool midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai is genuine, according to multiple reports, though sources indicate the Premier League club are confident of retaining their key player.

Speculation linking Real Madrid with a host of Liverpool’s star players has been rife in Spanish football publications, with names like Ryan Gravenberch, Alexis Mac Allister and Florian Wirtz frequently mentioned. These reports often serve as clickbait, but in Szoboszlai’s case, the interest from the Spanish giants appears to be well-founded.

Szoboszlai has been a standout performer for Liverpool this season, scoring 10 goals and providing seven assists while being deployed in a variety of positions. His form has been so impressive that teammate Mohamed Salah recently described him as “one of the best players in the world right now.”

Graeme Bailey, a well-informed transfer insider, has confirmed Real Madrid’s concrete interest in the Hungarian international. Lewis Steele, Merseyside correspondent for The Daily Mail, echoed this sentiment, noting the personal connection between Szoboszlai and Real Madrid winger Vinicius Junior as a potential factor. “Szoboszlai’s rise, though, has been clear for all to see – not least Real Madrid. The Spanish giants have an interest in him, and why wouldn’t they be keen? Vinicius Junior is friends with the Hungarian,” Steele wrote.

Despite the interest from Real Madrid, Steele believes Liverpool fans have little to worry about, stating that Szoboszlai is happy at Anfield. “Worry not, though, Liverpool fans: Szoboszlai loves life at Anfield and said just a fortnight ago when asked about a new contract (talks are ongoing): ‘I like the city, I like the club, I like playing with these guys, I love Anfield, I love the fans, let’s see what the future holds’,” he reported.

Liverpool are currently engaged in contract negotiations with Szoboszlai, whose existing deal expires in the summer of 2028. Bailey has reported that talks are progressing well, with the club hoping to finalize a new contract before the start of next season. The Reds are reportedly prepared to meet Szoboszlai’s salary demands, which are in the region of £250,000 per week.

These developments suggest that Szoboszlai is likely to remain at Anfield, and a move to the Bernabéu does not appear to be on the cards at this time.
